Act now for benefit corporation law in California
Executive Summary
Business Leaders:
This week, the California legislature voted to enact a new kind of for‐profit "triple bottom line" corporate form that will be required to create and report on its material positive impact to society and the environment. The Assembly caste the last vote on Monday and the AB 361, Benefit Corporation Bill, is now in the Governor's hands.
You can influence the outcome of this decision. Let's rally for a finale, not just a finish line!
Between now and mid September, you can send a letter to Governor Brown in support of this important legislature. Supporters of this bill, who have advocated for it from the beginning, urge that new letters be sent on behalf of your company.
Here are a few tips from the advocates we've heard from:
1. Draft letters that are personal to your company and/or business.
2. Indicate in the first paragraph in bold that you support AB 361 and want Governor Brown to sign it into law.
3. Download the AB 361 Fact Sheet above for inspiration.
4. Address letters to:
Brian Putler, Deputy Legislative Secretary
Office of Governor Brown
Office of Legislative Affairs
State Capitol
Sacramento, CA 95814
Email: Brian.Putler@gov.ca.gov
Fax: (916) 558‐3177
PLEASE copy Andi Liebenbaum, Senior Consultant to the bill's author, Assemblymember Jared Huffman,
on those letters either by email at Andi.Liebenbaum@asm.ca.gov or fax at (916) 319‐2106.
