Getting the big picture: surveying the front lines of the sustainability movement

Now that we are beyond “the end of the old world” as signified by the December 21, 2012 winter solstice, it is time to accelerate the shift to a thriving world. This conversation with big picture expert and educator Vinit Allen reveals the primary components and character of the planet-wide movement and offers some specific game changing priorities, as well as plenty of examples of how we can all play our parts in the eco evolution of our species, once we are informed and empowered to take action.

Listen to Allen's interview here.

Getting the information out is key, as exemplified by Vinit’s Sustainable World Sourcebook and Spring of Sustainability online course with the Shift Network.

In the November/December issue of Sustainable Industries, we featured a one-on-one interview with Portland Mayor Sam Adams about his efforts to promote the city's sustainability sector and a controversial decision to devote $14 million toward the planning and design of the Oregon Sustainability Center which would be the city's first living building. This un-edited version of the interview offers an opportunity to find out more about Mayor Adams is thinking and doing as the Great Recession slowly comes to an end.
