Clif Bar ups its organic

Clif Bar has a new year’s resolution: increase the percentage of organic ingredients in its products. Again.

Five years ago, organic ingredients weren’t part of Clif Bar’s products. Now, the company uses more than 50 percent organics, and has set a goal of exceeding 70 percent by the end of 2006.

The company is already the largest buyer of organic brown sugar syrup in the world, purchasing more than 11 million pounds a year, said company spokesman Dean Mayer.
