Solar shades Kyocera building by Becky Brun - 5.19.08
Vertically integrated solar panels take center stage on Kyocera KYO’s Class A office building in the Kearny Mesa community of San Diego. Designed by BPA Architecture Planning Interiors, the four-story, 104,000-square-foot building showcases an 18-kilowatt solar system designed by Kyocera, one of the world’s largest producers and suppliers of vertically integrated solar panels.
The building is designed to achieve a Silver Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for Core and Shell rating, according to BPA Principal Darrel Fullbright.
Structural engineering was performed by Hope Engineering, while McParlane & Associates provided mechanical and plumbing engineering. Michael Wall Engineering conducted the electrical engineering. Completion is planned for first quarter 2009.
