Overcoming Barriers to Sustainability: Strategies for Leading the Change
Summary
Being the agent of change in an organization is a challenging position. When that change is focused on implementing sustainability, it can be even more challenging. This workshop will focus on the principles, competencies, and methods of fostering and supporting sustainability initiatives within large and small public and private organizations. The course will tailor topics to fit the particular needs of participants, but will address such issues as shifting the attitudes and thinking of organizational members, building the supporting systems and structures, and ensuring your sustainability efforts take hold.
Through a combination of short lectures and group exercises participants will learn to assess their current organizational systems and culture to determine how best to intervene to foster sustainable behavior. Special attention will be paid to the common barriers and pitfalls organizations encounter. Participants will learn how to plan, implement, and grow a change strategy to overcome these obstacles and put their organization on a path toward sustainability.
Outcomes
- Assess your organizations culture and the climate for change.
- Develop strategies for enlisting the support and energy of key people and overcome resistance and complacency.
