Our Food Footprint: Strengthening Regional Food Systems and Improving Social, Environmental and Economic Outcomes
Today world wide an unprecedented amount of attention is paid to food issues, and for good reason. From growing and harvesting, through transportation, preparation, and disposal, our food system has wide-ranging impacts. Against a number of health, environmental, or social indicators, the current system is fundamentally unsustainable. Tremendous challenges are ahead due to climate change, growing global population, land scarcity, water and other resource shortages. Yet there are key opportunities for individuals, governments, and businesses to make a positive impact and improve the outcomes.
This interactive and resource-rich workshop is designed for wide audiences. The topics covered will enhance participants' understanding of the various food system impacts and suggest a framework for analyzing opportunities for change.
The class will also highlight tools and resources for setting and implementing food-related policies and practices, and showcase several examples of companies and institutions making positive, fundamental change.
