Summary

The next frontier for urban sustainability is neighborhoods, providing an important scale to quickly impact the growth of cities. Cities are wrestling with many complex and overlapping challenges, from building cost effective and resilient infrastructure to responding to the urgency of climate adaptation and energy security.

How can urban development professionals successfully tackle these issues at the neighborhood scale? How can they work with public agencies, utilities, developers, and community stakeholders to create a workable sustainability implementation strategy?

This engaging workshop will introduce participants to EcoDistricts, a four-step "process management framework" to guide neighborhood sustainability projects. Public policymakers, urban designers, developers, and community-based organizations will be equipped with practical governance, engagement, assessment, and project development tools. Led by EcoDistricts movement leaders Rob Bennett and Naomi Cole, this all day workshop will share best practices from their 18+ years of cumulative experience in sustainable development.
