RATING: Congressman Jay Inslee (D-Wash.) has an important message for us: The climate is changing due to global warming, and we need to do something about it. Thank goodness we know now! But while it’s easy to lose track of the countless books communicating the same basic message, “Apollo’s Fire: Igniting America’s Clean Energy Economy” is actually one of the better titles in this genre to come along. One thing about being a member of Congress is you have plenty of interns and staffers who can help with your research—and, in this book, it shows. Inslee and co-writer Bracken Hendricks present an overwhelming array of statistics and report findings, yet they also do so without letting the book become overweighted with jargon and numbers. “Apollo’s Fire” takes its name from the manned moon landing that President John F. Kennedy set in motion in the early 1960s. “Today America is ready for that same kind of leadership,” Inslee and Hendricks write. And considering the numerous big names in politics and business who have lent ideas or words to “Apollo’s Fire,” from the introduction by President Bill Clinton to dust-cover quotes from the likes of Richard Branson and Robert Redford, the authors may have the desire to effect change and also build connections. –Published by Island Press
