If that introduction sounds a bit like one of those Sally Struthers commercials from the 1980s for mail-order college training, it’s only to poke good-natured fun at what is actually an impressively wide array of careers and business opportunities in what the author identifies as a $200-billion industry.
Croston writes his manual a bit like the popular “For Dummies” series of instructional tomes, with plenty of bullet points, graphs and sidebars to make the information as digestible as possible. Which is a good thing, at least in this case, because Croston’s book is seemingly meant as—and modestly succeeds at being—an easily accessible quasi-reference manual that can motivate those new to sustainability and its strictures or market opportunities a helpful lay of the land.
