RATING:
Gabriel is certainly a believer in “destiny”: Six of the eight chapters in his book have the word in their title. “Visions for a Sustainable Energy Future” looks at the transformation from a variety of perspectives, from changing demographics to the developing market for carbon trading. Gabriel delves into the effects of deregulation on the energy market, both in terms of opportunity and as somewhat of a cautionary tale. He’s frank that the public is misinformed in its belief that deregulation drives prices down. As utilities face pressures from Wall Street to provide double-digit returns on investment, Gabriel raises the question: Is that the right motivation to create a more efficient energy supply system in America?
