Put an 'eco' on it
Other interesting topics to be addressed at SXSW Eco include 3D printing, the Access Economy and urban gardening (including Eco’s Edible Walls Party, where diners can create their own appetizers by picking fresh ingredients off a "living wall" garden). And although its Rotten Tomatoes popularity rating is a mere 51%, there be a special screening of "Pandora's Promise," 2013 a film that has sparked debate between energy experts and environmentalists for positioning nuclear power as a vital energy solution.
SXSW Eco is also hosting its own Startup Showcase aimed at technology companies and social entrepreneurs focused on solutions to global challenges. Twenty-four worldwide emerging startups across the sharing economy, eco-fashion, waste reduction, big data and other industries have earned a coveted spot at this one-day investor pitch competition.
SXSW Eco will take place October 7-9 at the Austin Convention Center. Early registration discounts are available through tomorrow, August 23.
